Suggestion for a film
I Origins
I Origins is a 2014 American science fiction drama written, directed and produced by Mike Cahill.
This movie deals with a graduate student, Ian Gray, interpreted by Micheal Pitt, who is researching
the evolution of human eyes with Karen, interpreted by Brit Marlig and another scientist. At a
Halloween party he meets an interesting woman, Sofi, interpreted by Astrid Berges Frisbey. He is
attracted by her eyes, and he photographs them, but she leaves without providing her contact
information.
One day he sees a billboard cosmetic featuring Sofi’s eyes. Later Ian founds Sofi in the
underground and they fall in love.
Even thoungh the different ideas about religion, Gray’s and Sofi’s relationship develops and they
eventually plan to marry. One day when they return to the flat, they block in the lift and this shift
of negative power causes a freak accident in which Sofi’s is killed.
Seven years later, Gray writes a book slamming the creationists and their beliefe that eyes haven’t
evolved. He marries Karen and they have a baby. Studing the baby’s eyes they discover through
the database to see if there are any recent match. In fact Sofi’s eyes match those of a young girl in
India, called Salomina. Ian travels to India to find her and after long time he finds Salomina in front
of the billboard where he put the photo of Sofi’s eyes. They return to the hotel and Ian makes
some tests to Salomina to verificate the eyes’s theory : the young girl prefers the same images like
Sofi.
We like this movie because it compares different ideas (science and religion) through love,
relationship and humanity. We suggest you to see this movie and hope you like it.
