right down to the job at hand . A friend to all , she is funny , kind , loving , and will offer a “ helping hand ” regardless of how busy she might be . Esther has the uncanny ability to share an insight or thought that quickly captures the essence of a challenge or issue and then enumerate the number of potential solutions . If problem solving has a name , it is Esther Formosa !
On the educational side , Esther ’ s fingerprints are “ all over ” our school ’ s program . At the beginning of her time at Saint David ’ s , Esther was charged with organizing and executing the paper files which went to the high schools in support of the eighth graders ’ applications . As success begets more opportunities , Dr . Donald Maiocco , our fourth Headmaster , quickly asked for her help in organizing the annual Eighth Grade Italian Study Tour . From then , Esther became an integral part in the organization and success of not only this trip , but many other overnight and international travel experiences for the boys . By summer 2001 , Esther ’ s immediate predecessor , Ms . Stephanie Berardesca , retired , and Esther was promoted to Executive Assistant to the Headmaster . From there , Esther began using her signature ability to streamline processes to maximize efficiency with which everything she was involved or asked to help . To note a few , she upgraded our system for paper files and file digitization , refined our process for the school ’ s calendar ( both internal and external ), introduced a digital system for the Registrar ’ s Office in 2004 , and later led the way in our transition to a schoolwide database . And , of course , she was integrally important in supporting both Dr . Maiocco and Dr . O ’ Halloran ’ s teaching schedules and managing their busy calendars . By the early 2000 ’ s , Esther ’ s son joined Saint David ’ s as a student , and she joined him and his classmates on their trip to Italy in 2005 as a chaperone . It was particularly gratifying to go not only as a parent , but after spending all those years of expert service on the planning side . She went on two more trips to Italy after that . Starting in 2009 , Esther took over the school directory and once again streamlined another process for the school . Two years later in 2011 , Esther was integral in helping the school through its NYSAIS Decennial Accreditation as a member of the steering committee . Aesthetically , Esther possesses a great eye for color , style , detail , and balance . Early on in her years at Saint David ’ s , she was charged with designing the school ’ s banners , specifically the Fiftieth Jubilee Banner and then , for the sixtieth anniversary , the banner used during the graduation ceremony . In the mid 2000 ’ s , Esther assumed responsibility for the school ’ s
Yearbook , helping orchestrate a move to an online version . Her forte was working with the eighth graders on their individual pages .
A professional highlight took place in the mid-winter of 2004 . She would use her project management skills in skillfully choreographing a posed , school-wide photo of every enrolled student in 2003-2004 with their Headmaster , Dr . Maiocco , on the sidewalk in front of school . Esther taped her marks , negotiated access to the building across the street with the exact right balcony at the perfectly determined angle and voila , she was able to capture the cover photo for the Winter 2004 issue of the Saint David ’ s Magazine . Years later in 2016 , she helped design flexible office space in the Rectory at St . Thomas More Church which the school rented during the Graham
A talented seamstress , Esther created numerous clothing apparel including a British Naval Officer ’ s coat which she wore at Saint David ’ s Pirates of the Seven Seas Halloween Day , October 2022 .
