The Cutting townhouses , along with Graham House , serve as the home for Saint David ’ s School . The four townhouses were built in 1919 as a restrained neo-Georgian style by William Delano .
The property was initially gifted as a present by Robert Fulton Cutting ( 1852-1934 ) to his children , so that they could be independent , yet closely connected . More specifically , 15 East 88th Street was given to R . Fulton Cutting Jr . ( 1886-1967 ) and his wife Mary Josephine Amory Cutting ( 1887-1971 ). Twelve East 89th Street was given to Helen Cutting Wilmerding ( 1883- 1971 ) and her husband Lucius Wilmerding ( 1880-1949 ). Fourteen East 89th Street was given to C . Suydam Cutting ( 1889-1972 ) and his wife Helen McMahon Brady Cutting ( 1894-1961 ). Sixteen East 89th Street was given to Ruth Cutting Auchincloss ( 1895-1948 ) and her husband Reginald Auchincloss ( 1891-1984 ). Mr . Cutting gave his fourth daughter Elizabeth Cutting McLean Booker ( 1885-1973 ) a house at Seventeen East 71st Street .
