Visioning

A world without Mental Illness… That’s not even possible. You would have to go back in time and erase millions of years- worth of history. It has come to a point where Mental Illness has shaped our society. We can’t change the fact that thousands of people attempt and commit suicide every day. We can’t stop people from starving and making themselves throw up every day either. Although those are your “mainstream” Mental Illness effects, that does not lessen the importance of any other illness.

What if everyone knew the basics about Mental Illness? Quite possibly, the death rate of suicides and irrational murders could be sliced in half. Maybe we all would stop thinking that people are faking their illness without probable cause.

In order to minimize the issue of untreated Mental Illness, is to provide knowledge and awareness to the world. The most logical way to tackle this problem is to start with efficient ways of providing the necessary knowledge. The intervention I came up with was to have Mental Health lessons a part of high school Health classes’ curriculum. Having these lessons will give teens an early understanding of Mental Illness and what causes it as well as how it affects its “victims”.
