ALL ABOUT THE RECORD CHAMPIONS’ SHIELD
1. 302 DIFFERENT PLAYERS WON THE GERMAN CHAMPIONSHIP WITH BAYERN AT LEAST ONCE.
2. The 20 players who won the title the most times are Reds: Müller( 12), Neuer( 11), Alaba( 10), Ribéry( 9), Martínez, Boateng, Kimmich( 8), Robben, Coman, Ulreich, Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Kahn, Scholl, Augenthaler( 7), Matthäus, Thiago, Rafinha, Zickler, Dreher. Lewandowski also won the championship 10 times, 2 of them with Dortmund.
3. All German champions since 1903 are engraved on the shield – a total of 114 clubs. The first German football champion was VfB Leipzig. 4. FC Bayern was engraved 33 times. When the club won its first championship in 1932, the“ FC“ was missing from its name. All subsequent championships have the addition“ F. C.“ or“ FC.“
5. SINCE THE FINAL IN 1922 DID NOT PRODUCE A CLEAR RESULT, TWO CLUBS WERE ENGRAVED: 1. FC NÜRNBERG AND HAMBURGER SV.
6. The championship trophy replaced“ Viktoria”, which was lost in the Second World War – a 100 cm high bronze statue with angel wings. 7. 1. FC Nürnberg became the first German champion after the war in 1948. Max Morlock and his teammates had to celebrate without a trophy and received a laurel wreath. 8. After the Bundesliga was founded, 1. FC Köln was the first club to win the trophy in 1964. 9. If the title decision can be made on the last matchday in several stadiums, a duplicate has been used since the 1964 / 1965 season.
10. THE COPY WAS INITIALLY MADE OF SILVER-PLATED PLASTIC.
11. Since the 1980s, high-quality duplicates of the championship trophy have been available for this purpose, which are twelve percent smaller than the original.
12. In 1992 and 2002, three trophies were up for grabs on the final matchday because so many clubs had a chance of winning the title. In the end, Stuttgart( 1992) and BVB were the winners. 13. The championship shield was created in 1949 by the goldsmith Elisabeth Treskow in Cologne: it had a diameter of 50 cm, consisted of 5.5 kg of sterling silver, 16 tourmalines and had a material value of 9,000 euros. 14. The first captain to lift the trophy was Philipp Henninger from VFR Mannheim in 1949. 15. In the sports press, the championship trophy was called“ little Viktoria”. To this day, the shield has no official name. 16. The real Viktoria resurfaced in 1990 in an East Berlin coal cellar. Today she stands in the DFB headquarters in Frankfurt. 17. The current trophy has space for the champions until 2027, as long as there are not too many clubs with overlong names such as Borussia Mönchengladbach. 18. In 1981 and 2009, more silver rings were added to the shield to offer space for new champions. The shield now weighs eleven kilos and is set with 21 large and small tourmalines. It has a diameter of 59 centimetres and a material value of 25,000 euros.
19. THE ENGRAVING OF THE NEW CHAMPION ON THE SHIELD TAKES UP TO TWO HOURS.
20. In 1970, the shield fell to the ground in Mönchengladbach and some of the green gemstones popped out. 21. Pep Guardiola also dropped the trophy in Munich in 2014 after being showered with beer. He said:“ It is not only very, very beautiful, but also very heavy.“
