Escape, break in

Chapter 1

_______________________________

It was a beautiful day, a beautiful day 12 year old Diego would never see. Locked in his cold cell he had just woken up. His cell mate, Jonathan, was snoring in his bed. Diego had woken early; relieved that morning grogginess had not affected him that day. It had been three years since the world was held captive. Put into giant prisons called “The Containment Triangles”. Together, these three buildings stood leering over civilization in a triangle formation; one to contain the prisoners, another where the prisoners worked, and the final for the prisoners to spend their free time. This was the smallest building, and the most crowded. They built tunnels to transport them to each building it was all made of stone to make it more menacing it had been three years since Diego had seen the sky because there was no windows and they were never allowed outside. They were held captive by a person with ultimate power who hated the world and wanted it to suffer.

By now Jonathan had woken up and usual whining of him having to participate in the cell fights. The cell fights where held every week for people to entertain the guards by fighting till one of them is unconscious the prize is a bigger cell and more free time and every month a new person was chosen to fight.

Jonathan was one of the first people chosen to fight. Only winning once and usually getting beaten up, but today is the day that they will choose a new contestant.

It is also a stressful day for Diego, as he will hope he is not picked, but before they announce the new contestant he will have to go to work. As an electrician, he has to work as a one of the people who fixes the electric circuits. It is one of the best and safest jobs to have comparing our second degree burns to the broken bones other peoples jobs give them. He works 10 hours a day and gets 4 hours of free time, but today, since it’s a cell fight, his work is reduced by half.

Giving him 9 hours of free time, today the other workers were taking and placing bets on who would be the next person to fight in the cell fights. His shift ended just as an electric circuit almost exploded, so he considered himself lucky and hoped to not being chosen for the fights. As he made his way to the building where they had their free time were the cell fights were held he noticed that more people were coming than usual all with serious faces normally they came screaming and excited but now everyone was silent it.

He felt as if any sound would make everyone attack. As they arrived he saw the chief guard stand on top of the same structure as he all ways dose but he seemed worried of something, and Diego could not wait to find out what. When everyone in the triangle was there the chief spoke and said,

“Today one of our previous cell fighters has had some issues and therefore we will choose a second cell fighter” the crowd of people murmured.

Diego could not shake of the feeling that he was not telling them the whole story. After the crowd absorbed the news the chief walked over to another smaller guard who handed him an envelope the same envelope from where he gave the news of the new cell fighter. When the crowd has settled the chief speaks once again starts to speak,

"The two new cell fighters that will be joining the current 76 cell fighters are Trevor Patel and Diego Guerra."

Diego fells stunned even though he knew that he would have been picked eventually. Trevor a boy who also looked around his age and had a big group of friends around him looked just as stunned as he was. The chief was smiling as he always does when he looks at the faces of the terrified new cell fighters Diego walks to the stage he has seen enough cell fighters go to their beating to know what to do.

When both new cell fighters reach the stage the chief speaks again,

"The first fight will be our new fighters against each other."

Diego saw it coming the new cell fighter all ways fight first. One of the guards escorted them to where the fight was going to happen.

The fights were all ways held in a different location and most of the time they were in ones of the most dangerous places in the triangles. They were being led to a place Diego recognized and then he knew where the fight was going to be it was going to be in the electricity chamber and because of that new information he knew he was going to win.

When they arrived and the crowd of the people that were forced to watch them fight had been seated.

The chief stepped up on to a box and held his gun up high,

“Fight” he yelled, and fired his gun.

Diego knew what to do. He kicked his opponent in the ribs and ran to one of the wires. His opponent regained his sense after the impact, and started running towards him. Diego grabbed one of the wires and threw it against Trevor, slowing him, and allowing Diego to land a punch to the face. He missed as Trevor fell, and tripped him with his body as he tried to get up but Trevor wanted his pay back and kicked him in the stomach sending him rolling a few feet.

Diego kept rolling far enough to be able to stand up, and not risk another kick. When he got up he went to the center of the room where there was a huge column that contained the energy to power the all the buildings which was attached with cables of all colours. Diego knew which wire cut off the lights in the entire room; he also knew that there were night vision goggles under a cabinet in the comer of the room, goggles which he had very conveniently rolled to when he was kicked.

He reached the column and realized that if he cut the power he would make the Chief Guard very angry because he would be trapped in the dark. But it was this, or getting beaten up, but one thing he was going to do was not cut it himself. After he had decided what he was going to do, he felt a sharp pain on his shoulder, and collapsed when he realized that he had been punched. He jolted to his feet and ran to the cable that would cut off the lights. He also knew that Trevor would follow him, and when he did he slowed down. Like most people, they think that the cables are delicate, but they can hold an entire person on them.

He carelessly went through the wires until he reached his desired one. He knew that he had him and his opponent on the wire. Turning around, he saw that Trevor was just a few feet away he seemed to pick up that the wires would not break. Now sprinting towards him, he knocked Diego off his feet and onto the ground. Diego struggled to get Trevor off him and get to his feet. He ran to the wire that cuts the lights and sat on it. Trevor looked at him confused, but still charged at him. Diego, sitting still, wasn’t prepared for impact. Diego received a punch to the face, while assuming that the wire wouldn’t break, he launched himself and fell on top of him.

"Sorry" Trevor said.

"You shouldn’t be" Diego replied, while breaking the wire, forcing the room to go dark.

End of Chapter One.
