Wow, am I ever excited to present this. I barely even dreamed that one day, I’d get to interview the drummer of one of my favourite bands. And yet…here it is.
Started with an email I sent to my editor, Scott, one sleepless morning. “Wild idea! I bet I could get Slim Jim Phantom”…for some reason not expecting Scott to reply as he did – with “sure, see what you can do”.
Got back into bed and put on a Stray Cats album, fully expecting I’d wake up in the morning and discover I’d dreamed it. That didn’t happen. A couple days later, feeling a little shaky, I sent off an email I hoped someone would read…eventually.
Another early morning not long later, I was squinting at a reply that said he’d do it next week. Forwarded it to Scott with a note that said “oh my god”. Didn’t even have my glasses on yet when I suggested a day and the office promised we’d figure it out when SJP got back home.
THE DAY. Forgot to be nervous as I wrestled with Skype, with Jim on the other side remarking on my sarcasm. He was a gentleman and put me right at ease – didn’t even start shaking until a couple hours later.
I’m incredibly touched he was willing to give me all this wonderful, thoughtful stuff. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I did.
