In daily life, we, as former
foster children, often
experience pain during
celebratory occasions.
Paradoxically, birthdays and
certain holidays (when families
often share customs and
closeness) can stir feelings of
what was always missing
in our lives. To cope, we often repress and retreat from interacting.
We seek strength during these times. Yet, we do not invite pity or
guilt. Instead – despite the urge to hide sometimes – we deeply
want you to know us, hear our stories, appreciate our experiences,
and yes, see some of our creations. Like you, we want to be integrated into society, we want to fit in, be loved, work better... live
better!
The names and birthdays of former foster children on this calendar are a way to celebrate all foster children on “their own day”
and we hope to add more names and birthdays on future calendars! We invite everyone (whether or not you were a foster child)
to share in our healing while helping others along the way. It is in
this spirit of reaching out… of reflection, inclusion and connectedness, that this calendar was created... which we view as another
