Superintendent Randy Neeley and the other members of the Madison County Board of Education had an exceedingly busy first day of school at the start of the 2026-2027 school year. They made a point to visit every single school in the district to show support and see how things were running. It also gave them the opportunity to see the new police department at work, that meant everything from directing traffic to just patrolling the halls of the schools greeting kids.“ We met almost all of them today. And all of them, to a person, said this is exactly why they took this job. They’ re the rockstars. Beside the principals, they’ re gonna be the rockstars at these schools. Especially in elementary,” Neeley said. Wilcox said that role inside the school system has a ripple effect that can impact other law enforcement agencies in the county.
“ We still have to have all the training as a police officer. But it takes a special person to walk around those schools and work with students and staff every day,” Wilcox said.“ We get to work on preventing those issues that street level officers deal with every day.”
