a break , they receive donations of food from restaurants and those in the community willing to help , like Baptist Health Richmond . “ It just grew from there , the numbers ,” Jeff said . From March 18 until the end of the month , they were able to provide 2,306 meals .
For the month of April , the Alcorns helped provide 7,343 meals , which includes deliveries in Berea , Waco , and Richmond .
The Alcorns track their feeding progress with a desk calendar that is marked up and etched all over with notes including the numbers of people fed , where they have delivered and donations they have received .
After jumping around a few places and suffering an injury which Jeff said slowed him down just a little , the couple is back to one-day a week of providing meals , but have also been providing grocery boxes to families to cook for themselves .
In total for the year 2020 , the Alcorns were able to help provide 50,432 meals to people of Madison County .
“ It ’ s pretty amazing what we have been able to do with this ,” he said . “ When I say these numbers I am not bragging on us at all because we believe in the Lord providing , and he provided all of this . It had nothing to do with us , we are just the vessel he used .”
According to Billie Jean — or Momma Joel as some affectionately call her — the two worked anywhere from 60 to 80 hours a week to do so .
“ We just were seeing people around town and how there was such a need ,” Billie said .
Oftentimes , their work begins early in the morning
Jeff and BJ Alcorn have served more than 7,000 meals to the community .
around 8 a . m . or so , and lasts until late in the evening around 11 p . m .
“ A lot of times we would not have eaten until everyone else had been fed ,” she said . “ So say we got done feeding at 8:30 or 9 p . m ., then you have cleanup and deliveries to do , and then you drive back home — there were times it was late .”
