tapers, scissor-cuts, and razor work. Gabriel says that almost everybody who walks through his shop’ s door is a personal friend; of course, he is still open to serving a stranger as well.
It’ s all about hard work for Gabriel, which is what enabled him to begin his business and start his dream career as a barber. Although it’ s hard work, it is something he says he enjoys and for him it’ s all about Madison County; that is why he decided to put his shop literally in downtown Richmond, in front of the courthouse, which is figuratively the heart of Madison County itself. Gabriel says he“ really wouldn’ t want to be anywhere else.” Inside the shop there are relics of our county, including football and basketball posters of local teams and a real MCHS football helmet alongside an EKU football helmet. It has a very vibrant Kentucky theme, but also a local one. Gabriel Kope’ s barbershop has sponsored numerous athletic events for Madison Central High School. Therefore, the transaction made at the counter of the shop is more than just commerce to Gabriel; it is a friendship, and many of those transactions become proceeds that go to local beneficiaries such as the MCHS football and basketball teams.
