In addition to the lights , the parks department is working to still host one of their most prominent events : The Christmas Parade .
When it came time to plan for the event — which occurs typically late in the summer — the department was faced with finding an alternative to bringing thousands to Main Street like normal .
Instead , with the approval and guidance again from the commission , the parks department is working to host a “ reverse parade ” at Lake Reba , where people will drive-thru and see stationary “ floats ” throughout the park .
And although the group has worked tirelessly through the pandemic to offer better quality of life to Richmond families , it is not without its challenges .
According to Elizabeth Eversole , the department ’ s event coordinator , “ pandemic planning ” is a tricky thing to maneauver .
“ We tried to figure out the best method was for the parade and how to do it … we were trying to figure out the best method that allowed the most people to participate safely ,” she said .
Apart from the lights and the parade , the department is still participating in their Santa Express program , where children can receive a letter from Santa Claus .
The team stated this year would be excellent to help get letters out with people being encouraged to stay home .
People are really happy that we are trying ,” Moore said .
