What can we do?
The Wilsons are on track with their
healthy sleep habits, according to experts.
“Go to bed at the same time, wake up at
the same time, no matter whether it’s the
weekday or the weekend,” Walker said.
“Regularity is king, and it will anchor
your sleep and improve the quantity and
the quality of that sleep.”
“Aim for a bedroom temperature of
around 65 degrees,” he said. “Your body
needs to drop its core temperature by
about two to three degrees to initiate
sleep and then to stay asleep.”
If regular bouts of missed sleep become
a habit, Madison County residents can
talk to their doctors and get a referral
to one of two local sleep disorder clinics:
Baptist Health Richmond or CHI St. Jo-
seph Health in Berea.
The Sleep Center at Baptist Health
Richmond diagnoses and treats patients
13 and older who have disorders that
disrupt the amount and quality of their
sleep. They offer on-site and in-home
sleep studies, CPAP and BiPAP mask
fittings, desensitization training, sleep
modification and sleep educator visits.

Dr. Iqbal’s and Walker’s advice is criti-

“Sleep is a non-negotiable biological
