Welcome to Madison Magazine, a
magazine all about Madison County — the
people, the places, the stories.
This past month marked the 100th anniversary
of the passage of the 19th Amendment,
which guarantees and protects women’s
constitutional right to vote.
Madison County has a long history of female
leaders, and some, like Laura Clay, were
leading the way for women’s rights since the
beginning of the women’s suffrage movement.
That tradition continues to this day as local
women continue to break barriers and make a
difference in their community.
Throughout these pages, we will be highlighting
some of the women who are continuing to
make strides in local education, agriculture,
athletics and government.
Join us as we celebrate this historic centennial
and commemorate a milestone of democracy
and the continued hard work of Madison
County women.
We hope you enjoy the stories in this issue of
Madison Magazine.
