Interview with the Designer
In Style Autumn 2013
Interview with the Designer, Wedding magazine Aug/Sep 2013
FULL version!
My earliest fashion memory is...seeing my mum dressed up to go to Balls. She wore the most fabulous dresses, and two I specifically remember were silk chiffon and taffeta numbers, one was purple, hot pink and orange and the other was brown, beige and cream – it was the early 70’s after all! I still remember being mesmerised by the sound and the feel of those amazing fabrics.
I am best at... being myself.
My biggest regret is...not meeting my husband a few years earlier.
Who are you closest to? Hard question – am very close to my mum, my husband and my kids – family is everything to me….
If I wasn't a designer I would be... lost.
For my wedding I wore… a silk strapless column dress with detachable train with a silk chiffon wrap.
I chose this because… it allowed me to effortlessly change my look from day to evening.
This made me feel… confident, happy and comfortable.
If I could change anything about my wedding day it would be…I would wear a full length silk tulle veil – I really regret not wearing one. Everything else was perfect.
My advice to all brides-to-be would be… be happy with whatever decisions you make, whether it’s about your dress, the venue, the ceremony – do not be swayed by other opinions that you’re not comfortable with – it’s your day. Also, choose your photographer carefully and please do buy a photo album rather than have all images on disc – having something tangible to look at is priceless – as is being able to show your wedding pictures to your family in years to come.
A wedding day must have is... a Madeline Isaac-James gown. Other than that, a groom….
My favourite design from my collection is…because… hard question, there’s lots for different reasons. If pushed, I would probably say Mariella from my new collection – there’s over 100 individual pieces in the pattern for this dress – it’s something different but still very stylish and elegant.
