MADE Maven Special Women's Issue April 2018 | Page 5
publisher’s note
Women of color
need one another
to thrive.
I
may be biased but I believe
that women of color may be the
most ambitious individuals on the
planet. Projected to become the
majority of all women in the U.S.
by 2060 and currently the most
educated segment in the nation,
Women of Color are obviously
driven to reach new heights in our
lives and careers. Our accolades
speak for themselves and have
catapulted us from black girl magic
to black girl brilliance. From Luvvie
Ajayi and Val Warner to Ayesha
Curry and La La Anthony, there's no
doubt that we are amazingly talent-
ed and gifted.
Yet, it's commonly known that overall
our brilliance doesn't match up to our
bank accounts. Biases and stere-
otypes that power the wage gap
and gender equality challenges call
attention to the need for access to
additional opportunities for women
of color to match their greatness.
Beyond the pages of this special is-
sue, our goal is to inspire, inform and
activate our community of ambitious
women of color (in which we are dedicating
the MADE Maven channel) by providing
access not only to advice, information and
opportunities but most importantly, each
other. Women of color need one another
to thrive.
Our team has curated a career-changing
weekend at our home base in Chicago
called the MADE Maven Leadership Summit
for one-on-one mentorship, professional
workshops, panel discussions and network-
ing events on April 28th - 29th. I hope to
see all of our MADE Mavens there! For more
information, visit mademaven.com.
