way we have a solution.
Of course no one wants to
repeat the same outfit so
the trick here is to select
pieces you can utilize in
more than one way. For
instance, a plaid top can
be used in a casual manner
with jeans but can also be
tied around the waist with
a skirt for a girls night out.
It’s not what you wear, but
how you wear it. Revamp-
ing a piece in your closet
gives you maximum range
of the item as well as
challenges you to only add
items to your wardrobe
that you won’t grow tired
of after styling it once.
CREATE A WARDROBE STORYBOARD
One of the best parts of defining your style is when you get into
the groove and begin documenting it. Capture your wardrobe and
good style days like any other moment. You can go old-school with
Polaroids and a corkboard. You could also opt for a digital bank of
memories by using Pinterest to share with a community and even
get feedback or inspiration from others. Once you get these solid
style moments at your fingertips, you can take things up a notch by
making a catalog of different mood boards and storyboards. After
all your style is part of your own story. What would it say?
PURGE YOUR WARDROBE
This is the hardest but healthiest trick to discovering your
signature style, you have to learn how to purge. You’d be surprised
how much is in your closet that you don’t use. This usually is the
result of being too timid to get rid of an item or not being sure on
how much to get rid of. By no means should you start completely
from scratch but take a day to assess what you have. Toss it if you
haven’t worn it in the last six months, it doesn’t fit, or it requires
more altering than what the piece retails for. There are plenty of
places to donate or sell your old pieces. If you’re stuck on the fence
on what to do with a piece, try some DIY alterations by adding
fabric or destroying your denim. We also recommend sticking
to the math rule when introducing new items to your wardrobe.
Whenever you add an item, rid yourself of two pieces. This keeps
your closet in a cycle as your style evolves. This keeps down the
madness of sorting your pieces.
Now you can fly the nest in style.
Happy wardrobing.
