With their mother at the helm,
Sugar will tell you, her greatest
accomplishment is raising her three
daughters. They are authentic,
compassionate, self-aware, and
have been empowered to seek their
heart’s desires. Her middle daughter,
Shawnee Dez, is doing just that —
soon becoming the next big soul
artist sensation.
Only in the early stages of her
career, Shawnee has carved out
a space for herself in the Chicago
music scene. From singing in
children’s choir to performing at
family and local gatherings, her
soulful melodies have commanded
vast audiences and uplifted many

spirits. Shawnee has been booked
at Chicago’s most popular music
venues, including The Promontory
Chicago, Tonic Room, and The
Portage Theater.
In 2016, Shawnee released her debut
EP titled ‘Day Child’ comprised of three
songs, one of which being “Slipped Up”,
a track she performed at a recorded
Sofar Sounds show. To date, that video
has 68K views on Youtube.
