Playing roles we love like Tegan on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder, she not only gives us life but she gives us representation. In a Q&A with MADE, Vann talks about passion, patience and preparation as an actress. MADE: When did you discover your creative passions? What inspired you to pursue Acting as a career? AMIRAH: I discovered creativity in my household at a very young age. My family formed a salsa band using kitchen applianc- es as instruments like the grater and pots. I chose acting as a career because teachers and directors believed in me. They saw something in me. I didn’t know was there and I’m eternally grateful. MADE: What advice would you give your younger self as a student at Fordham chasing your dream? AMIRAH: I would say to my younger self...the truth is effortless. Passion and patience and all else are available to you when you sit peacefully in truth. MADE: As a successful Afro-latina in Hollywood, how do you remain true to yourself while avoiding one-dimensional perceptions of others? AMIRAH: Oh those “others”! I am constantly checking in with myself. How can I grow, learn, be more available to the amazing women I represent and tell their stories truthfully and wholly. If I believe #mademaven 31
