Music therapy has been used in a lot of medical fields since 1800. Classical music is often played in post-anesthesia units because it improves comfort and reduces pain. This is because it makes the person focus on the sounds rather than the physical pain.

Because classical music calms the mind, your body also enters in a more relaxed state, causing you to sleep more rapidly.

This type of music has also been shown to reduce stress levels in some circumstances. A study in Taiwan discovered that pregnant women who listened to classical music showed signs of reduced stress and depression throughout their pregnancies.

Music can assist people to process emotions following a traumatic event. Researches indicated that adults who had been through trauma in childhood engage with music in a different and profound way to others who have not.
