someone capable, someone local.
“Riding around the Island in a beauti-
ful wedding carriage is a memorable event
best captured by a photographer with
Island experience," says Jeffrey Dupre of
I SLAND P HOTO . "Our photographers follow
the bridal carriage on bicycles allowing us
the mobility to capture the most unique
moments of your wedding. We are able to
be in the right place and stop at the best
locations for perfect pictures of the bride
and groom."

best locations based on the lighting, what
is in bloom, the wind direction, and all
sorts of variables that really capture what
couples have come for as the backdrop to
the most photographed day of their life;
their wedding day," adds Christi Dupre
of Island Photo.
What type of photography style
are you interested in? Documentary?
Portraiture? Fine Art? A combination
of all styles? Take into consideration not
only today's popular photo trends, but
what you want in your photos several
years down the road. Mackinac Island's
photographers offer a range of styles and
years of experience, with packages that
are sure to match your style and budget.
Good communication with your pho-
tographer is also essential. When making
initial contacts, consider personality and
experience rather than just price. Your
photographer should be helpful in sug-
gesting ideas without being overly agree-
able to impossible requests. They also
should be able to offer photo package and
prices that fit your wedding budget.

EDITING YOUR PHOTOS
Digital imaging has exploded in the
world of wedding photography. The tech-
nology has come so far that good photos
can be made into incredible works of art.
After the wedding, the photographer's job
is just beginning. Using the latest photo
editing software, time is spent on the
computer in the post-production phase,
sorting, analyzing, color correcting,
retouching, sharpening and enhancing
all your photos. Adobe Bridge, Lightroom
and Photoshop are some of the profes-
sional's editing tools. Hours are spent
perfecting the pictures and typically every
single image is worked on. An amateur
photographer or friend rarely has the
experience to do what needs to be done
to your pictures during post production.
Engagement photos or portraits for
your wedding announcements are also
very popular as the scenery on Mackinac
Island is always beautiful and offers many
romantic places for photographs.
Numerous weddings take place every
weekend from May until the end of
October. The most popular dates fall in
June during the beautiful lilac season,
but October and of course every Saturday
from Memorial Day to mid October are
busy. Planning a weekday wedding is
a great option as you will have a better
opportunity of securing a local photog-
rapher of your choice. However, even
with short notice, there will always be a
Mackinac Island photographer available
that can provide you with fantastic pho-
tographs you will love for a lifetime.
VIDEOGRAPHY
Yes, photos are fabulous, but video cap-
tures things that photos cannot. Gone are
the days when a wedding videographer
means lights-camera-action in your face
all night. Today's videographers embrace
a more documentary style of filming,
meaning you might not even notice them
until you're handed a stunning video of
your day. Gabi Bowditch of M ACKINAC F ILMS
says, "Your wedding photographer will
get both posed and candid shots, but for
everything in between, you need a videog-
