A Look at Hit Song Casa’ s Owner

Joyce Medlock

Hello. What is your name? How long have you been involved in the entertainment business? Joyce Medlock. I became involved in the music business in 2001 when I started writing songs. In 2005 I purchased a Nashville home which I rented to songwriters. I began hosting open mics in 2010.
When did you know that you wanted to be in this business and what was your motivation? I realized songwriting was a way to help others in their sadness and to show there can be joy on the other side of pain. It is a way to give hope, joy and even laughter to those who need it most.
Who has helped you along the way and inspired you the most? So many wonderful songwriters have stayed at Hit Song Casa homes and have sent their friends here to stay as well. Songwriters who come to my open mic venues have inspired and amazed me quite often.
What are some of the highlights of your career so far? Every time a writer tells me Hit Song Casa is their Home Away from Home, that is a highlight. Having a single song contract on a song I wrote and hearing an artist take a song I wrote to a whole new level rocks!
Have you received any special awards or achievements? Every sweet appreciative note a writer leaves me in their room at Hit Song Casa is all the award I need. I could not ask for more. I am truly blessed.
Do you have any special events, shows / gigs coming up? I seldom perform my songs publicly anymore. I mainly provide a venue for other writers to perform theirs. If there is time left at the end of the open mic venue, I might perform a song or two I wrote.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 or 10 years? Lord willing, I hope to be able to be here at Hit Song Casa still doing what I do now, meeting songwriters everyday and watching them grow.
What would you like your legacy to be? I hope that songwriters would always look back at Hit Song Casa and have good memories of writing here and think of the friends they made as a result of staying there.
Do you have other interests? What services does your company offer? I was a real estate broker for 37 years but retired from that years ago. Hit Song Casa combines what I learned about managing real estate, writing songs and providing something that songwriters need.
Any special words of encouragement or advice for our readers? If you are a songwriter, my advice is to enjoy the journey. Never let the commercial aspect of this business take away the joy you have in writing. Record your own cd just for fun if you can afford to do so.
