BETTER DRIVE DECISIONS FOR THE YEAR AHEAD

SIT DRIVE SOLUTIONS: REVIEWING COUPLING CHOICE FOR MACHINERY RELIABILITY AND PRECISION.
As manufacturers review the year and plan their next machinery projects, recurring drive problems deserve a closer look. Vibration, premature wear, positioning errors, and repeated coupling replacement can all provide useful clues. Before carrying the same specification into another year, it is worth asking whether the coupling still suits the application.
Replacing a failed coupling may restore production without addressing the cause. Has operating speed increased? Have acceleration rates or loads changed? Has shaft alignment deteriorated? Understanding the conditions leading up to a failure can help prevent it happening again.
SIT DRIVE SOLUTIONS offers coupling technologies covering general machinery, precision automation and demanding industrial applications. The starting point is the machine’ s operating requirements, rather than selecting solely by shaft diameter or the dimensions of an existing component.
For conveyors, pumps, and general machinery, TRASCO ® flexible couplings can absorb shock loads and torsional vibration while accommodating shaft misalignment. Where accurate motion transmission is required, TRASCO ® ES provides zero backlash with an elastomeric element that absorbs shock and vibration.
Servo driven machinery presents a different set of priorities. Positioning accuracy, torsional stiffness, inertia, and reversing duty influence selection. SERVOPLUS ® bellows couplings offer high torsional rigidity and backlash-free transmission, while SERVOMATE ® disc couplings are designed for servomotor applications requiring a compact construction and low inertia.
For more demanding industrial duties, METALDRIVE ® disc couplings and SITEX ® ST steel gear couplings extend the available options. The appropriate technology depends on torque, speed, misalignment, installation constraints and maintenance requirements. No single coupling type is the best answer for every machine.
A useful year end review should therefore consider continuous and peak torque, rotational speed, starting frequency, shaft sizes, operating temperature and available space. Maintenance access and the consequences of an unexpected stoppage should also form part of the discussion.
PALS-SALES provides UK machine builders and industrial users with local application and commercial support, backed by SIT DRIVE SOLUTIONS.
Before specifying the same coupling again, ask: is it performing reliably, or are recurring problems costing time and money?
