We asked MCA Committee member Matt Fisk , MCA to provide some rapid-fire answers to fifteen of our burning questions ! Here are his replies . Thanks for taking the time , Matt !
How old were you when you knew you wanted to work in tree care ? I was 19 years old .
What was your first paying job in the tree care industry ? Bartlett Tree Experts ( Seekonk office ) in 2011 .
Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work ? How have they influenced you ? Kevin Narbonne , MCA , is a mentor of mine . He always has great advice on how to deal with clients , sales , plant health care , and life .
What energizes you at work ? When my team and I show up to a client ’ s property and they ’ re excited to have us there . Also , when we finish , and a new client is happy that they chose my company to perform the work !
What is your favorite piece of equipment or product ? The silky saw and port-a-wrap .
What ’ s your favorite plant or tree ? Why ? The European copper beech ( Fagus sylvatica ). It ’ s not very common and can grow to a massive size . It ’ s such a regal tree .
What ’ s something you ’ re good at that most people wouldn ’ t know ? I race professional motocross and travel most Sundays to off-road and motocross races around New England .
Best book you ever read ? “ The War of Art ” by Steven Pressfield .
Top destination on your must-see list ? Central America
Favorite season ? Summer . Long days and t-shirt weather !

What would we most likely find you doing on your day off ? I ’ d be in my garage wrenching on my dirt bikes while watching an old motocross race .
What ’ s one thing you ’ re learning now ? Why is it important ? I ’ m working on the best strategies to communicate with people . Communication is very important when dealing with people . It ’ s just as important as removing a tree safely . Clear expectations go a long way . I ’ m also learning Spanish !
What ’ s the best advice you were ever given ? Who was it from ? My high school cross country coach and science teacher Mr . Mello would say “ Don ’ t talk about it , be about it .”
If you didn ’ t go into tree care , what would you be doing instead ? Building houses and swinging a hammer with my dad .
