Tree work poses specific and inherent risks. This training will pre-
pare you with the skills to respond to, and manage, an emergency
in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrive.
The instruction will be specific to situations that may be encoun-
tered by tree care professionals. Participants will learn skills such
as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock, and other

Establishing Strong Architecture in
Young Trees
SPEAKER:
Jen Kettell
Horticultural Consultant
Taking the time to assess the framework of young trees at plant-
ing is an often neglected and crucial step in ensuring their future
health, as correcting structural defects in large, mature trees can
be a risky business. We will review sound tree selection that
matches habit with function, and provide useful tips for address-
ing unrealistic client expectations during the planning/design
process. Jen will also present the markers of healthy tree archi-
tecture and demonstrate effective pruning techniques using her
10-step guide for correcting structural defects in the early years.
