Arbor Day 2019
(continued from page 1)
What makes Appleton Farms an inspired place?
Rolling grasslands, tree-lined allées, grazing livestock, stone walls,
and historic farm buildings are part of this pastoral landscape – a
rare glimpse into New England’s agricultural past. A gift of Colonel
Francis R. Appleton, Jr. and his wife Joan, Appleton Farms is the
oldest continuously operating farm in the country, established and
maintained for centuries by one of America’s founding families.
The Trustees continue the four-century legacy in sustainable
agriculture on this land through one of the largest Community
Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs in the country – in
which shares of vegetable crops are purchased seasonally – as
well as a grass-fed beef and dairy operation and more than 300
acres of actively hayed land.
Grasslands and trees here harbor one of New England’s largest
populations of bobolinks and meadowlarks. Wetlands provide
important spring feeding stops for migrating marsh birds and
are home to frogs and salamanders including the rare blue- and
yellow-spotted salamander. Deer, fox, coyote, and mink are
found in the fields. Fall brings migrating hawks and pine stands
shelter owls in the winter.
Sponsorship Opportunity
Arbor Day of Service 2019
MAA’s Arbor Day of Service sponsorship offers an opportunity
for tree care companies and suppliers to show support for the
industry while maximizing their marketing efforts. With a spon-
sorship investment, industry members demonstrate a strong
level of commitment to the MAA’s Arbor Day of Service initiative
and its mission to increase awareness for safe and proper tree
care. There is also an option for supplier display space at the
MAA’s Arbor Day Celebration at Appleton Farms on April 26.
Sponsor funds help defray the cost of promotion and logistics
for this industry-wide event and support the MAA’s safety pro-
gramming throughout the year. Sponsors are recognized in all
print and electronic event promotion including news releases,
newsletters, email blasts, website, and more.
The Trustees is Massachusetts’ largest conservation and preserva-
tion organization and the nation’s first land trust. For more about
Appleton Farms and the many other inspired places statewide
that are under the care of the Trustees visit thetrustees.org.
