President ’ s Message

Hello MAA Members ,
When we set our programming for the year , the MAA board is always laser-focused on what is best for our members . Additionally , we set a goal , or theme if you will , for education . This year we wanted to shine a spotlight on the Fine Art of tree climbing , pruning and preservation . If you ask me , we hit it out of the park !
The year started out strong with MAA ’ s first venture as Content Partner for ArborEXPO in Springfield , MA . Our members , and the industry , benefitted from exceptional education and skills training right in our own backyard – and we ’ ll do it again in March 2023 .
Arbor Day of Service brought much-needed quality tree care to community parks , elementary schools , and playgrounds throughout the Commonwealth . Many trees were planted in Boston ’ s Public Garden in honor of industry icon Henry Davis , who passed away this winter .
We launched our “ Modern Climbing Techniques ” workshop to rave reviews . Our expert instructors demonstrated incredible talent as they brought everyone up to speed on the latest tree climbing trends and techniques .
Fall Field Day was another great success with outstanding skills demonstrations including pruning , felling , and chain saw operation – not to mention all the latest equipment and products on display .
At our annual meeting on November 15 , I will hand the reins of this fine organization over to incoming president , Kevin Cleveland , MCA . It has been a true honor to serve as MAA president . I am enormously grateful to my fellow board and committee members – and a special thank you to Ray Rose , MCA who exits the board after nearly a decade of service .
Let ’ s continue to keep our focus on the Fine Art of arboriculture as we move our association , and our industry , forward .
Neal Reilly , MCA MAA President
