Using The Gears On Your Electric Bike
Here are some tips on how to use the gears on your electric bike:
Understand the basics: M2S electric bikes have a single chain ring up front at the pedals and a set of rear gears called the cassette. The chainring is attached to the pedals, while the cassette is attached to the rear wheel.
Use the right gear for the terrain: When riding on flat terrain, use a higher gear to maintain speed with less effort. When climbing hills, use a lower gear to make it easier to pedal. As a general rule, you want to keep your cadence (pedal speed) between 60 and 90 revolutions per minute (RPM) for optimal efficiency.
Shift before you need to: To avoid straining your bike's components, it's best to shift gears before you need to. For example, if you see a hill coming up, shift to a lower gear before you start climbing. If you wait until you're already struggling to pedal, you risk damaging your bike's chain or derailleur. When climbing hills, it's important to start by shifting to a larger cog on the cassette (closest to the wheel). As the hill gets steeper, shift to a lower gear on the cassette. This will make it easier to pedal and maintain your cadence.
Practice shifting: Shifting gears can take some practice, but it's an essential skill for efficient cycling. Start by practicing shifting in a flat, traffic-free area. Get a feel for how each gear feels and experiment with different combinations to find the one that works best for you.
By following these tips, you can use your bike's gears to make your rides more efficient and enjoyable.
