Experience, a U.K based tour operator, has launched a Monday morning flight from London Gatwick to Banjul.” The tour operator Gambia Experience further stated on their website that “the good news is, you don’t have to worry. If you have booked a package holiday with us that includes flights with Thomas Cook, rest assured that your money is ATOL protected and we are working on finding alternative flights for your holiday as soon as possible." The statement continues saying “we will contact every customer with an upcoming holiday when we have more information but will prioritise those with an imminent departure even though we are in the process of sourcing alternative flights to The Gambia.”
So many business operators within the industry have raise alarm for a possible disastrous tourist season. Most of them acknowledged that the collapse of Thomas Cook will have a direct impact on their plans for a successful season. One of them stated that since the fall of the former president Yahya Jammeh, the last two seasons were very successful and have impacted positively on the economy, workers and traders within the industry. Some of the hoteliers expressed concerns that the liquidation of Thomas Cook is going to have an impact on the employment sector because most of them have already hired personnel for the entire season.
