An inaugural meeting of local businesses was held at the Boulevard Hotel Radford, Nottingham, November 1999. This meeting started a ground swell of local business interest in changing the face of business engagement. This developed due to the dissatisfaction at the ‘accepted’ method of using outside consultants, who in the opinion of local businesses had no concept, or understanding of the real issues facing local businesses. The group became the Independent Business Association (IBA), a ‘voice’ to support & address the concerns of local business. At the first major public meeting, voluntary financial contributions from local business owners paid for printing the first newsletter, ‘Local Business Matters,’ distributed to all IBA members by IBA members. 2007 - Business & Sport Networking - Celebrity Network Event Celebrities from sport and business joined at Castle Cavendish Business Centre. The IBA, in partnership with Sport Acts, ran the business event with over 350 people in attendance. £2,000 was raised at the event for the Danielle Beccan Memorial Trust. Guest Speaker was John McGovern, Nottingham Forest European Cup winning captain, along with host Colin Slater MBE. In 2013 the IBA continues to support businesses and the community in the East Midlands. Locally, Bulwell, Hyson Green and Radford benefits from the IBA and Nottingham City Council scheme to encourage the local community and businesses to ‘shop local’, to support their independent businesses and high street. **Stop Press** The IBA is soon to launch its new website, providing a free listing for all businesses and to subscribe to your dedicated page to promote your business.
