M Pire was able to get an exclusive interview with Whitney Peyton. Check out below... Q: How do you think it’s different for you, being a female emcee, versus the experience of a male emcee, in the music industry? A: There are pros and cons to being a female in the rap game. I do stand out, but at the same time I have a lot to prove. People are afraid to name a female as one of their favorite rappers because it sounds “soft”. I’m just trying to do me. I’m not trying to be “hard” or fit some stereotype.  Q: What would you say contributed the most to making you the number one spot on the Hip Hop charts on reverbnation for Philadelphia? A: My chart position fluctuates, but I feel I make music that is relatable and I really rep Pennsylvania so they’re starting to have my back! Q: During the beginning stages of your career, were you ever considering being signed, or was it your plan from the beginning to build your career as an indie artist? A: When I first started rapping the industry was way different; you almost needed a record deal to be heard. Now, you can pretty much do everything yourself. I would consider signing with a label if it felt right, but that’s a big decision. Until then, I am comfortable and confident with how things are going and where I’m at. Q: Of all the well-known artists you’ve opened up for, who was your favorite and why? A: They are all WAY different from each other. Every one brings something unique to the table and I learn something new. It makes me a better performer each tour I go on because I get to see how the greats do it and I take away so much from that. You see what works and what doesn’t and you can start applying things to your own show. I just want to put on memorable performances! (Cont’d) 18
