Rock Mecca
Rock Mecca is an emcee
from Queens, New York
whose name has started
to resonate in the music industry. He is being touted as
an artist to watch this year,
due to the success of his first
album and the impact it’s
made in the underground.
Having grown a buzz and
maintaining a small but
growing following, Rock
Mecca is poised for greater
heights in the near future.
The Queensborough lyricist
started his career on the
street level, freestyling and
battling until he took his act
to the stage, performing in
open mics and showcases
all over New York City.
Battle tested and street approved, he decided to take his
act to the studio. After a few
stints in local groups and staying behind the scenes to write
for local acts, he decided to
venture into solo territory and
immediately started to take off.
His first collection of songs was
released in late 2012 as Pirate
Radio Star, a loosely themed
album where an anonymous
pirate radio DJ is on the run
from the FCC. No videos were
shot for the LP and Rock would
rarely show his face in media,
to keep up with the theme of
a pirate radio host. This would
also be a sharp contrast in this
against era of social networks ,
transparency and overexposure we are currently in.
The album received a great reception critically and several of the album’s
singles experienced solo success. Rock has now started to work on his sophomore LP, entitled “Ironworld”, a record that is going to be watched closely by
industry insiders who are interested to see where the Queens emcee is going to
take it this year. Determined to make music without labels, Rock thinks outside
the box to make sure he’s never boxed in. One who sells his music but can’t be
bought, he strives to take the music past its cookie cutter monotony and into
new heights of innovation and originality.
