Sound systems

1. Mighty Crown Sound System "The Far east Ruler"

Mighty Crown sound system was founded in 1991 by a number of friends (Selectors Masta Simon, Cojie, Super and Sami-T) from Yokohama, Japan. They have become very influential to Dancehall Reggae music in Japan. They were and still is the undisputed and undefeated champion sound in the far east.

2. Stone Love Movement (Stone Love)

Based in Kingston, Jamaica Winston "Wee Pow" Powell built the Stone Love sound system in 1972, using locally-built amplifiers. These were soon upgraded, and the equipment has been kept up to date over Stone Love's four decade history. It became Jamaica's most popular sound system, known for its superior sound quality, and maintained this position into the 21st century. It has also played overseas in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan. Stone Love is renowned for its exclusive dub plates.

3. Black Chariot International

Trinidad (& Tobago) based culture sound system. Black Chariot International’s owner/selector (Gauge) is no stranger to the music world with over 15 years in the business. Gauge has sampled with all genres of music and still maintains working relationships with many artistes and promotions.

4. Black Chiney

Black Chiney founded in 1999 is a Jamaican sound system based in Miami, Florida. It consists of four Chinese Jamaicans: Supa Dups, Bobby Chin, Willy Chin and Walshy Killa. The Caribbean slang "Black Chiney" refers to this racial mix. Black Chiney often travels around the world as a sound system for nightclubs, concerts and other party venues. The quartet also participates in sound clashes in their native Jamaica.

5. Digitaldubs

Formed in 2001, Digitaldubs was the first reggae/dub/dancehall sound system in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. For the last years they have played throughout Brazil, including a weekly party in Rio, exposing the sound system culture to a new, eager audience.

But, more than write a new chapter on the history of Brasilian sound system culture, they bring new and unique flavors to Brasilian and Reggae music.
