Letter from the Ladies, My heart is with you as we begin this New Year. Every time the clock strikes 12 on December 31st we start to make those bargains with God; “This year I’ll read through the whole Bible!” or “This year I’ll tithe the full 10 percent to my local assembly.” Or better yet, “This year I will join the usher’s ministry.” There is something about that stroke of the clock which gives us the feeling that we get another chance to get it right. We believe that we can start January 1st with a clean slate and a new lease on life. My sister I am here to tell you that you don’t have to wait until January to repent and begin again. If you fall down in 2015, ask God for forgiveness, dust yourself off and move forward. The thing about God is that He is not bound by time; He can talk to you at any moment. Knowing Jesus and the Father in such an intimate way sets the ladies in these pages apart from the ordinary woman. Each story shows an average woman exceeding all expectations because she relies on an extraordinary God. You will read about the journey of a one-time choir member from Ghana, Africa who traveled more than 6,000 miles to find Christ, a young book worm who despite her color or gender conquered the world of science and technology; and a new generation of women business leaders who can successfully merge ministry and the marketplace. All of these sisters are victorious because of the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit. There is a thread weaved between these articles and it is the idea that each of us needs Jesus Christ. Pastor Kemi Searcy, our focus for January, reminds us that we still need the same Jesus that the apostles and the Hebrews needed. In the hustle bustle of today’s society we are bombarded with images of unrest in Ferguson, beheadings in the Middle East, robberies of Christmas packages, missing coeds and other gruesome reports. I would say it’s a good time to call on Jesus. Kemi shows us how to do just that. Read her story and hear how the love of God transformed a woman who says had she died before knowing Christ she “would have busted Hell wide open!” Let us take this journey together.
