Golf was part of the driving force for the destination’ s ambitious journey when, in 1964, Robert Trent Jones designed the Real Club de Golf Sotogrande- long regarded as one of his masterpieces and now ranked Spain’ s second best course- in what was, back then, a largely uninhabited, unknown area of coastline near Gibraltar.
Since then, four more world-class courses have been created to make up Sotogrande’ s golf offering, including The Real Club Valderrama, famed as the‘ Augusta of Europe’, which hosted the Ryder Cup and returned to the spotlight in Spring 2016 to host the Spanish Open.
