In 1992 the Línea 1492 was launched to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of Columbus’ arrival in Cuba with Siglo I, II, II, III, IV, V each represents the five centuries since Columbus first discovered tobacco in the New World.
The Maduro 5, the Cuban maduro( dark wrapper) cigar line was added in 2007. The Maduro 5 is heir to the best tradition of Cuban dark wrapper cigars( capa madura), which uses the upper leaves of the plant and obtains its characteristic range of dark colours and texture through a long, complex process of fully natural fermentation. This wrapper, enhanced by 5 years of aging, is used in Cohiba’ s Maduro 5 line.
Today Cohiba is the flagshop of the Cuban Cigar manufacturers Habanos S. A, however like any other sought-after-luxury good product; it has become the subject of brand piracy, counterfeiting and more seriously disputes over trademark registration yet none of this has managed to slow down the brand’ s appeal across the world. Cohiba continues to occupy its place in the global cigar market as one of the leading brands, as one of the most expensive cigars on retail shelves and as one of the most sought-after smokes for anyone who loves cigars.
