PH EXPLAINED HIMSELF THE CONSTRUCTION THIS WAY:

“ My starting point was that a piano is one of the few instruments played on while inside its case. I mean, you take a violin out of its packaging before playing on it. The traditional packaging of the grand piano has therefore always been that of an item of furniture, in the style of time. I wanted to turn it into an instrument and, in doing so, perhaps improve its sound, which is solely determined by the sounding board.”
“ The large wooden construction the bears the iron frame and the sounding board I bound as if it was a book of red shagreen. I made the lid of plexiglass, which was all the rage just then. The music rest is a part of the lid and has the entire width of the piano. The legs are of malleable cast iron and chromiumplated. They have been curved to provide space for percussion instruments, even a big drum”.
