Each one of them shares the common aim of promoting the beauty of the destination and its excellence in hospitality. This undoubtedly explains the exemplary success of Mauritius in this field. The professionals agree that: around the year 2000, the rainbow nation really began to make its name in the events industry. Its expertise, high quality of accommodation and technology provided by luxury hotels have paved the way for Mauritius to occupy a leading position on an international level for this phenomenon. The recent agreement between Sun Resorts and the very high standard Chinese operator, Shangri-La, is a perfect example. The planning of great weddings in these magnificent hotels but also the entire MICE sector (Meetings, Incentives, Congress & Exhibition) are at the heart of the Mauritian events industry. It is an important economic sector, not to mention the countless ramifications of subcontracting, requiring significant additional investments! Jean-Luc Manneback, the Director of Impact Production, holds more than 50% market share of the technology in the events industry and customer preferences (Study for 2010-2011, carried out by the Competition Commission). The latter affirms that: “Each year, we invest nearly a third of our turnover in up to date audiovisual equipment, new marquees or innovative concepts, excluding the cost of human resources!” These investments clearly show how much Mauritius is securing the future and permanence of its leading position in international events management. New projects are being developed while others emerge… For Astrid Dalais and Guillaume Jauffret, the managers of Move For Art, a company specialised in advertising and artistic events, “the events industry has a prosperous future with the professionalisation of corporate events, the annual cultural events that are being organised, the MICE market…” They are presently in the midst of preparations of Porlwi By Light, an event that will soon brighten and enliven the nights of the Capital city with unprecedented lights and sounds! As for Jean-Luc Manneback, he is fully invested in his creative and cultural industries Park project, an immense green environment which will host sound and light shows, concerts but also museums, galleries, plays, recreational facilities with an educational component linked to the entertainment business: “Just imagine having shows similar to that of Cirque du Soleil, concerts with artists such as Cold Play or Sharukh Khan in Mauritius!” LUXURY MAURITIUS 65
