uand on entre chez Adamas, mille étoiles
brillent dans nos yeux émerveillés. Pas de
doute, nous sommes bel et bien dans le temple du diamant, la pierre par excellence des dieux
et des puissants, celle qui donne courage et chance,
symbole de pureté et d’invincibilité. D’ailleurs,
saviez-vous qu’Adamas voulait dire… diamant en
grec ancien ? Réputé pour sa dureté, le diamant a été,
en effet, associé dès l’Antiquité à ce terme signifiant
indomptable.
L’histoire d’amour entre la famille Denton, propriétaire d’Adamas, et les diamants a commencé au milieu du 19e siècle en Belgique pour se poursuivre en
1920 en Afrique du Sud et à Maurice à partir de 1970,
date à laquelle la première grande usine de taille a
été créée. Aujourd’hui, la personne qui règne sur cet
Olympe s’appelle Sebastian Denton, fils de Stephen
Denton qui ouvrit le premier magasin en 1987.
Cette longue tradition diamantaire est d’ailleurs racontée dans le musée situé à Floréal, à côté du magasin. De la taille au polissage, vous y découvrirez cet
univers fascinant. Tailles en rose ou à degré, ovale, en
poire, en cœur, émeraude ou baguette, marquise ou
princesse, vous saurez tout ce qu’il faut savoir sur le
nombre de facettes et son degré de pureté.
Il ne vous restera plus alors qu’à choisir le joyau de
vos rêves, rivière ou solitaire, diamant blanc, noir, cognac ou rose. Et si d’aventure, vous ne trouviez pas
votre bonheur, vous pouvez toujours le commander
sur mesure, dans l’un des quatre magasins. Parce que

que le diamant est invincible !
As you enter the Adamas showroom, a thousand stars
seem to shine, filling your eyes with wonder. We are in
a temple to the diamond, the gemstone of the gods and
the mighty, which brings courage and good luck and is a
symbol of purity and invincibility. No surprise, then, that
Adamas is the Ancient Greek word for diamond! Known
for its hardness, since ancient times they have been synonymous with indomitable courage.
The love affair between the Denton family, the owners of
Adamas, and diamonds began in the mid-19th century
in Belgium, continued in the 1920s in South Africa and
reached Mauritius in 1970, the date when the first big
diamond cutting factory was established here. Today the
person who reigns over this Olympus is Sebastian
Denton, the son of Stephen Denton who opened the first
shop in 1987.
The history of their long involvement in the diamond
business and everything about this fascinating universe,
from cutting to polishing the precious stones, is recounted in the Diamond Museum in Floreal, next to the shop.
From round to oval or cushion, from the pear shape to
the heart, the emerald, the princess and the marquise,
you can find out all there is to know about the different
ways of cutting a diamond and the degree of purity of a
stone.
Then all that’s left is for you to choose the diamond
of your dreams―white, black, cognac or pink – in a
rivière or solitaire setting. And if by chance you don’t
find what you are looking for, you can always have a
piece of bespoke jewellery made in one of the four shops.
