Adamas, en grec ancien, signifie“ indomptable, inébranlable”. Un mot qui désigne ce qui est inflexible, solide et durable, une définition parfaitement adaptée au diamant, la pierre la plus rigide à l’ état naturel. L’ histoire de la famille Denton débute à Antwerp en Belgique, au milieu du XIXème siècle. Au cœur du Diamantkwartier( le quartier du diamant) le savoir-faire se transmet de génération en génération. Une poignée de main suffit à conclure une affaire. « Il n’ y a pas de contrat, mais un rapport de confiance » raconte Sebastian Denton, garant de cet héritage qui a évolué avec son temps.
Dans les années 1920, l’ arrière-grand-père de Sebastian émigre en Afrique du Sud et fonde Goldstein Cutting Works, une usine de taille de diamants( la plus grande pendant plus d’ une soixantaine d’ années). Dans les années 1970, la famille Denton ouvre un atelier à Maurice, qui au fil des années deviendra un petit bijou de la joaillerie.
Sebastian se remémore une enfance baignée dans un milieu qu’ il affectionne, à suivre son père dans des salons ou à l’ aider en boutique ou à l’ atelier lors de ses vacances scolaires. L’ héritage et les valeurs d’ Adamas se ressentent, et sont visibles dans ces pierres et bijoux taillés à la main. Si Adamas affronte une concurrence dans la région, la maison a su développer au fil des créations un rapport de fidélité et de confiance avec ses clients. Adamas est certes une belle histoire de famille, entre valeurs et traditions, mais c’ est aussi un nom à la pointe de l’ innovation, et des bijoux à l’ éclat éternel.
Adamas, from Ancient Greek, means“ unconquerable, invincible”. It designates that which is inflexible, firm and lasting. In other words, diamonds, the hardest naturally occurring stone. The Dentons’ involvement in the diamond business can be traced back to the mid-1800s, to the Diamantkwartier, the heart of the diamond trade, in Antwerp, Belgium where the know-how is handed down over generations. A deal here is a matter of a handshake.“ Your word is your bond,” notes Sebastian Denton, of the youngest generation to take over the family business.
In the 1920s, Sebastian’ s great-grandfather, Albert Goldstein, immigrated to South Africa and founded Goldstein Cutting Works, a diamond cutting factory, among the largest of its kind, spanning decades. In the seventies, he established a cutting factory in Mauritius, which over the years has evolved into a thriving retail business.
Sebastian evokes early memories of tagging along behind his father to trade shows or helping around the office during school holidays. Adamas’ authentic heritage is something that you can see, feel and sense in every handcrafted piece of jewelry. Adamas confronts global competition by fostering lasting business ties and recurring client relationships, all while constantly coming up with exquisite creations that vow to last forever.
