1 MES LIVRES / MY BOOKS « La liste de mes envies » de Grégoire Delacourt: Déjà le titre me donne envie de rédiger ma propre liste! C ' est l ' histoire d ' une femme ordinaire qui gagne au loto et peut désormais tout s ' offrir. « Onze minutes » de Paulo Coelho: J’ ai reçu une éducation religieuse avec des valeurs et mon jugement était forcément péjoratif sur le plus vieux métier du monde. Ce livre brise toutes idées reçues sur la prostitution. C’ est une belle histoire d’ amour. « Veronika décide de mourir » de Paulo Coelho: Pour se rappeler que chaque jour est un miracle. Quand on pense ne plus rien attendre, la vie se charge de nous prouver le contraire et nous offre l ' inimaginable.

" Eleven Minutes " by Paulo Coelho: Having been raised with strong religious beliefs, I instinctively frowned upon the world’ s oldest profession. But this book put all my misconceptions about prostitution to rest. It is a beautiful love story. " Veronika Decides to Die " by Paulo Coelho: It is a reminder that each day is a miracle. Just when you think there is nothing more to life, life itself proves you wrong. It is beyond belief, really!
2 MA VILLE / MY CITY Poste Lafayette n ' est pas une ville mais c ' est mon endroit préféré. À chaque fois que je me pose sur la plage, je regarde les vagues, je sens le vent sur ma peau … je suis ressourcée! L ' an dernier j ' ai découvert Venise. Dans les rues principales, c ' est bruyant et infernal. Dans les ruelles, à l’ intérieur des palais, c’ est calme et serein. La sensation est extraordinaire. Je n’ ai jamais ressenti un tel apaisement.
Poste Lafayette is not exactly a city, but it truly is my favorite place. Every time I go to the beach, watch the waves and feel that salty Poste Lafayette breeze … I feel like a new person! Last year I got to discover Venice. The main streets are so chaotic! But the back alleys, those inside the palaces, are tranquil. It is an extraordinary feeling! I do not think I have ever experienced such bliss.
3 MA MUSIQUE / MY MUSIC J ' adore l ' album de Patyatann( groupe world mauricien dont le premier album, « Sanpek », est sorti en 2016) qui me projette au moins 20 ans en arrière et me fait rêver de mon enfance où je jouais dans ma cour. Leur mélodie me rappelle l ' île Maurice d ' avant et me rend nostalgique. Cette année, j ' ai eu un coup de cœur pour Lianne La Havas( chanteuse soul anglaise) et Esperanza Spalding( chanteuse jazz US). L ' une pour sa capacité à me faire visualiser l ' histoire de ses chansons et l ' autre pour la maîtrise de sa voix, sa virtuosité à la basse et ses mélodies qui me font tourner la tête.
I am a huge fan of Patyatann’ s album( a Mauritian World band whose first album, " Sanpek ", was released in 2016) because it takes me 20 years back, to my childhood, when I played in my yard. Their melody is reminiscent of Mauritius‘ back in the day,’ which really makes me nostalgic. This year, I fell in love with Lianne La Havas( an English Soul singer) and Esperanza Spalding( an American Jazz singer): the first for her powerful and telling lyrics, the other, for her vocal mastery, genius, and melodies that make my head spin.
4 MON CINÉMA / MY CINEMA Je ne suis pas particulièrement cinéphile mais je suis tombée sur deux films, tout à fait par hasard, qui m’ ont profondément marqué: « Me before you » de Thea Sharrock, adaptation du roman de Joyo Moyes, et « Love, Rosie » de Christian Ditter, adaptation du roman « Where rainbows end » de Cecelia Ahern. Ce sont deux histoires très sentimentales, aux accents très dramatiques. Ces deux films m ' ont tellement touchée que j ' ai pleuré pendant deux semaines! J’ apprends l’ italien en ce moment. Je n ' ai pas hésité à les acheter en italien pour les revoir!
I am not a huge movie buff but I did stumble upon two movies that changed my life: " Me Before You " by Thea Sharrock, adapted from the novel by Jojo Moyes, and " Love, Rosie " by Christian Ditter, adapted by Cecelia Ahern’ s novel " Where Rainbows End ". They are both poignant, with a fair amount of melodrama. In fact, I cried for two weeks after! I am currently learning Italian, and did not think twice about buying the films in Italian to watch them again!
5 MON MAURICE / MY MAURITIUS J ' aime mon île et ses paysages idylliques, son climat clément et l ' odeur de dholl puri à chaque coin de rue. J’ aime le charme d’ antan de la rue du vieux conseil à Port-Louis( photo). J ' aime moins le manque d ' harmonie des habitations et de l’ architecture en générale, et le laisser-aller de ses chantiers inachevés. Il n ' y a plus de style. Où sont nos belles maisons créoles?
I love my island and its picture-perfect landscapes, its balmy weather and the waft of dholl puri at every street corner. I love the old world charm of the cobblestone Vieux Conseil street in Port-Louis( photo). I don’ t care so much for the lack of harmony of the houses and the architecture in general. The unfinished constructions … Where are the beautiful Creole houses?
