C’est avec la centralisation sucrière
enclenchée durant les années 2000
qu’Omnicane prend les rênes de toute la
production cannière du sud de l’île. Au
fil des ans, cette entreprise féconde a su
se tourner vers l’avenir en diversifiant
ses activités et en déclinant ses efforts
en différentes entités propres au groupe.
L’une d’elles, Omnicane Foundation,
fondée en 2009, vient donner ses
couleurs vibrantes au visage humain de la
compagnie. Ici, les employés, actionnaires
et communautés locales sont propulsés
au rang d’acteurs du développement dans
une atmosphère de partage et de bien
vivre ensemble.
Leur leitmotiv : « pour un Sud en
plein essor ». C’est ainsi que le groupe
sucrier, véritable pionnier en matière de
développement durable, met en branle
de nombreux projets pour assurer le
bon-vivre pérenne qui est la signature
de cette région. « Chaque année, nous
sponsorisons en moyenne 70 projets »,
nous explique Rajiv Ramlogun, Group
Chief Sustainability Officer chez
Omnicane. Ces initiatives, qui ont à cœur
le bien-être de la communauté, touchent
à de nombreux domaines tels que
l’éducation, les sports, l’environnement, le
développement et l’émancipation socio-
économique ou encore la santé avec, par
exemple, la campagne de sensibilisation et
de dépistage du cancer du sein ou encore
la campagne institutionnelle « Fight
Diabetes at Work » en vue d’améliorer
la santé et le mode de vie des employés
diabétiques du groupe.
Au-delà de ce désir de créer un Sud où il
fait bon vivre, Omnicane s’attache aussi
à ce que cette partie de l’île devienne un
carrefour des cultures. La Smart City
de Mon Trésor en est l’exemple. « Move
South », son slogan aguicheur, promet
un Sud en pleine ébullition. Située à
proximité de l’aéroport, la Smart City
de Mon Trésor ne représentera pas
seulement une passerelle incontournable
pour les affaires mais proposera aussi un
Trade Port & Freeport Park, un espace
commercial avec un centre commercial
de 10 000 m 2 et même un studio de
cinéma situé dans une ancienne usine
sucrière. Une ouverture sur l’extérieur qui
ne s’arrête pas qu’aux affaires : avec son
complexe résidentiel, Mon Trésor offre
aux Mauriciens comme aux étrangers la
chance de vivre loin des vicissitudes de
la ville, dans un havre fait de calme et de
nature.

In the 2000s, the centralisation of the sugar
industry allowed Omnicane to take the reins
of all the sugar production in the south of
the island. As the years went by, this fecund
enterprise turned its eyes towards the future
of the country, and diversified its activities
by focussing its efforts on a variety of group
entities. One such entity, the Omnicane
Foundation, was founded in 2009; its
vibrant humanism is such that employees,
shareholders and local communities are
all agents of development, thriving in an
atmosphere where sharing and harmonious
living are the modus operandi.
“A flourishing South”: such is Omnicane’s
leitmotif. The group, a pioneer in sustainable
development, has set in motion a plethora of
projects to ensure the perennial well-being
of the region, call it a Southern signature.
“Every year, we sponsor around 70 projects”,
explains Rajiv Ramlogum, Group Chief
Sustainability Officer. These initiatives, which
hold community welfare at their heart, have a
bearing on numerous fields such as education,
sport, nature conservation, socio-economic
empowerment and even health – two
examples include the breast cancer awareness
and screening campaign, and the Fight
Diabetes At Work campaign to improve the
health and lifestyle of the group's diabetic
employees.
Beyond aiming to create a South where living
is as pleasant as it can be, Omnicane also
strives to ensure that this part of the island
becomes a cultural crossroads. Mon Trésor’s
Smart City embodies this vision, and its
enticing call to “Move South” promises an
effervescent, dynamic region. Located near the
airport, the Smart City represents a gateway
to business and will also offer a Trade Port
& Freeport Park, a commercial space with a
10,000 m 2 shopping centre and a film studio
that will be created in an old sugar factory.
The Smart City’s open to the world – and not
just to the business world: with its residential
