The pandemic challenge
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenge for Le Méridien , like so many others , having to close their doors for an entire year . But the hotel ' s administration did not stop working to find solutions for reopening and has been keen on demonstrating their commitment to guest wellbeing as they welcome guests back .
Opening and welcoming guests back under unprecedented conditions requires unprecedented demonstrations by all hoteliers that the health , safety , and wellbeing of guests and staff is paramount . Face coverings in public spaces , mobile and online check- ins , keyless entry for guest rooms , and other newly introduced contactless services have become expectations for guests and employees of hotels globally .
Looking for hygienic and reliable solutions
In the first weeks of the hotel ' s reopening , Le Méridien deployed multiple free-standing hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the hotel lobby and elevators but had not yet provided temperature readers , digital signage , or QR codes that would take guests to information pages . The only mask verification at the time was verbal enforcement from staff – a reluctant task for customer service personnel to have to perform .
Multimedia Care detected a great opportunity to install its specialized hospitality solution : Health Checkpoint , a digital signage and branding platform , with integrated hand sanitizer dispensers as well as temperature reading and mask detection .

Todd Statz , Director of Sales & Marketing at Le Méridien , was introduced to Seth Rubenstein of Multimedia Care by Curtis Sparrer of Bospar , to see if Health Checkpoint might be a good fit . After a discussion with Statz , Rubenstein provided Statz with digital renders of what a customized Health Checkpoint would look like at Le Méridien , which were then shared with the General Manager , Craig Martin , to effectively communicate the functions , value , and fit . Martin immediately approved moving forward with installing their first Health Checkpoint station .
Feeling safe with Multimedia Care Health Checkpoint
“ It ' s really consumer confidence – they want to feel safe , they want to see the safety measures that the property has taken in public spaces upon arrival ”, said Craig Martin , General Manager of Le Méridien San Francisco . “ So with the Health Checkpoint in our lobby , our guests are able to observe some of the health screening that we have in place , and that gives them reassurance that they are in a safe place , that they are going to be able to enjoy their time in the hotel , their home away from home , during their travels .”
In addition to being highly functional , six features packed into one , the Health Checkpoint also needed to fit in with the aesthetic of the classy décor in Le Méridien ’ s lobby – to complement , not detract from , what Le Méridien guests have come to expect from this upscale property . While other screening devices can be found , alternatives that blend such a high degree of both form and function as the Health Checkpoint does , appear to be otherwise non-existent .
Easy to run and futureproof
Health Checkpoint is not only the right solution for just this moment in time , but its digital signage , billboard-like branding , and QR code engagement give it perpetual utility . When circumstances once again call for the capabilities of such a station , Health Checkpoint will already be in place , ready to be outfitted with whatever technology current conditions may call for .
