Local Artist in Barcelona
ME by Melia has partnered with
artist Memo Akten to create an
immersive art installation Deep
Meditations, on display at the brand’s
space at Sónar+D 2019, a creativity,
technology and business congress,
taking place
July 17 – 20,
in Barcelona.
The large-
scale piece
of audio-
visual art
was inspired
by mental
processes
and the
journey of
introspective
self-
discovery,
“Deep Meditations” entails a sensory
journey through the psyche and an
introspective personal reflection”,
explains Akten, which is why he has
defined a series of ‘inputs’ through
which he introduces the spectator to
the concept, involving the viewer in
its meaning and possibilities.
The hotel, located 30 minutes from
Barcelona, will hold various wellness
events including a Holistic Brunch
and a Sound Healing meditation
activity which will share certain
elements with Akten’s piece,
all designed to strengthen the
connection with imaginative artists
and the city of Barcelona.

complimentary tattoos to guests at
select pop-up tattoo studios as part
of their Blank Canvas art program.

Washington, D.C., and painters,
photographers, filmmakers, sculptors,
illustrators and graffiti artists were

of art for the chance to be one of
the showcased artists at the Moxy
hotel. Massacre, owner of Grit N
Glory, a New York-based studio, will
then create a tattoo with her own
signature style, using the artist’s work
as inspiration. The tattoos will be
available exclusively at Moxy hotels.
