Throughout the last 13 years while the Inn was closed for a major restoration , Michael Brod , the Managing Director of Canoe Place , partnered with Lars Clemensen , Superintendent of Schools in the Hampton Bays Union Free School District , to establish a novel concept to support the current talent shortage industry-wide , launching The Hospitality Academy at Hampton Bays in March 2022 .

Union Free School District , the Suffolk County Department of Labor , Licensing & Consumer Affairs , and Rechler Equity Partners intended to introduce a new wave of potential associates to the world of hospitality and includes practical lessons in front and back of house protocols needed to better understand functions and how individual departments play a role in cultivating a memorable guest experience . The academy is freeof-charge and includes traditional classroom instruction , handson project-based learning , and engagement with local leaders in the field of lodging and hospitality and culminates in a job fair . Understanding that circumstances vary for students attending , dinner and childcare are both included .
