WHAT IS YOUR APPROACH
TO TECHNOLOGY? DID YOU
INCORPORATE ANY EXCITING
TECH FEATURES DURING YOUR
RENOVATIONS?
We looked at technology in a couple
of different ways. What you will find
in your room is the intuitive nature of
where things are, the plugins that are
beautifully built into the nightstand
that clips in, so you can put them away
if you want to or have them visible
when needed.
People are traveling with two, three
devices and then you have three or
18 ILHA
four people in a room, then you have
twelve devices. You need the ability
to give everyone access because this
is the consumer today, guests expect
immediate access. Technology is
tough as it is constantly changing.
There comes a point when you can
have too much technology. We tried
to implement what made the most
sense with what is the most relevant,
keeping things simple at the same time
making sure that the rooms are wired,
the outlets are very visible, but can be
tucked away.
One of our biggest investments
during the renovations was putting
air conditioning into the building. We
automated the temperature control
in the rooms so that it is in line with
environmental standards. When you
leave the room the air conditioner
powers down and when you enter the
room it powers up, but the guest is
unaware of it.
You need to have excellent technology
but you can run off the deep end
trying to keep up. There’s always the
next thing. You need to focus on your
core business, do it right, and do it
well.
