Update Your

Workout Wardrobe by : Rachael Stewart

With fall just around the corner , there is no better time to update your wardrobe than now . I ’ m not just talking about our favorite oversized sweaters and leggings , or leather jackets and biker boots . I ’ m talking about renovating the workout attire , because sometimes feeling cute at the gym gives that extra boost to treadmill run or pump some iron .
Now , don ’ t go feeling like you have to spend a fortune . There are plenty of ways to look fun and fierce on a budget . As much as I love clothes , there is no need to splurge on ones to sweat in , so here are my picks of stores to get something accessible :
1 . Five Below : You can look down on Five Below all you want , but that place is every bargain hunter ’ s dream . For one , it was my go-to place for decorating my college dorm , but also their fitness section presents adorable clothes and accessories . They have everything from fun graphic tees to yoga leggings , and even tennis shoes . Perhaps serious workouts ask for more professional shoes , since you really need good support to keep your boneas and joints in good condition , but it never hurts to have a pair to throw on to wear on the car ride to pilates .
2 . Ross : Someone needs to pay me for repping Ross so much ! Ross is like T . J . Maxx ’ s younger sister who is giving them a run for their money and making T . J . Maxx kind of jealous with how cool it is . Unlike Five Below , Ross has brand name clothes but , of course , for a significantly discounted price . I have gotten dresses for $ 3 before , to give you a good idea of how cheap they are . It definitely takes some patience to look through all the racks , but it is so worth it . You can find top notch running shoes for $ 20 , sports bras for $ 7 , all the workout clothes you could dream of , and even healthy food or workout equipment .
3 . Your own closet : No , this is not a store , but what better place to find clothes than your closet ! We all have plenty of old t-shirts or leggings lying around , so why not put them to use at the gym ? Your workout clothes don ’ t always have to be specifically labeled “ workout clothes ”. Find some nice tops that you haven ’ t worn in forever and you have a great addition to your exercise ensemble that makes you look like you are the queen of fitness .
4 . Dollar Tree : This isn ’ t for workout clothes , but for hair accessories to keep you looking put together while you are sweating your buns off . Dollar Tree has so much fun stuff , so buying items from there is like putting together your own personal goodie bag . Whether it ’ s a sparkly headband or colorful scrunchies to keep that ponytail strong , add the right hair accessories and make it yours .
Truth be told , it doesn ’ t matter where you get your clothes or what you wear to the gym , but rather how the clothes make you feel . Working out is meant to make you feel happy , healthy , and strong , so your wardrobe choice needs to match that energy . Pick clothes that make you want to work out and that allow you to move well : I have a hand-me-down Cubs t-shirt that makes me feel great every time I wear it . So maybe it ’ s some funky leggings , or a neon hair tie — whatever it is , make sure it makes you feel confident and bold . Have fun working out and remember to enjoy the health journey !
