Beauty: Avoiding Shine
By Nwadi Oko
This summer will be a hot one, so make sure your makeup doesn’t suffer from the excess heat. For most, the shine occurs on the cheeks, forehead, and chin which can be extremely unflattering. Here are some tips to make sure that your full face of makeup does not melt off. Step one: use a mattifying primer. These primers can be very thick, so less is more. Apply it in a patting motion, pressing the product in your skin only in the areas that get shiny in the summer. A great primer is one from Becca.
Next, apply a powder over the primer but before the foundation. This will create a barrier between the sun and your skin and reduce shine. Loose powders are the best ones to use and I recommend the one from Laura Mercier. As you can infer, using a foundation that has a matte finish is necessary, but after application use the same loose powder as you did before and dust it all over the face. For extra protection, dab a thin layer of powder over your problem skin areas and let it sit or “bake” for five to 10 minutes.
After you “bake,” wipe the powder off and spray your skin with setting spray. I recommend a spray that has mattifying qualities or claims that is it long lasting. I recommend the Urban Decay spray or the one from Ben Nye. The Ben Nye setting spray is the same one that the disney princess costume characters use at the theme park use to set their makeup. To finish, grab some makeup blotting sheet and bring a pressed face powder to blot throughout the day. I recommend the MAC blot powder.
