Hair Fetish

Where are you from?

Shea B: I’m from a small place called Thomasville, GA.

How did you wind up in Atlanta?

Shea B: Growing up I always envisioned myself in Atlanta, working on different celebrities and working behind the scene on movie sets. So, I began by moving out to a place called Albany, GA where I spent three years and once I felt like I reached a plateau I decided to move on out to Atlanta.

At what moment did you decide you wanted to do hair?

Shea B:I always had a niche and a natural talent for hair. Growing up I would get $20 for allowance every week and I would always spend my money at the beauty supply store. I knew that if I did my own hair that meant I got to keep my money. I just always had a natural niche for styling.

So did that start in high school?

Shea B: That was when I was in the 7th grade. By the time I was in middle school I was probably making more money than my mom. I first started out with braiding, but that didn’t last long. I felt that if I’m making $50 from doing one head, then I can do several heads of quick weaves or pony tails and not be so tired because doing braids would take up most of my time. While my friends were at football games I was stuck at home braiding hair. I started playing around with different styles and the next thing I knew I was doing hair for everybody’s moms and aunties.
