Lutherhaven Annual Report :: 2014 | Page 2

WE ARE Lutherhaven. Dear PARTNERS in Camp, WE ARE LUTHERHAVEN! We’re not just the camp with the tall pines and blue skies and rippling waters ‘longside Lake Coeur d’Alene. We’re not just summer programs for kids or runaround games and s’mores. We are Lutherhaven. Lutherhaven is us: from camp’s visionaries and founders to you and me today. We’re a panoramic snapshot of God’s amazing movement through His mission in this place. We’re campers of every age. We’re devoted staff, dedicated volunteers, generous donors behind the scenes. Lutherhaven is programs for all of incredible scope and reach. We’re two magnificent sites … two of the most beautiful outdoor ministries in the world. It’s my privilege to present We are Lutherhaven, our 2014 Annual Report. Take a few moments to read it and rejoice. Through Lutherhaven, God is impacting the lives of little children, middle schoolers, high school youth, college students, kids with disabilities, moms and dads, older adults, families, churches, organizations, communities. Through our decades together we’ve put our hope in Jesus. We continue to count on God to lead the way, and are confident that, with God at the head, great things will continue to happen at our camps! Thanks so much for being Lutherhaven! I’m thrilled to present to you this report! Take time to sit back, relax and enjoy reading what God is doing in, through and out of this place. Because we are Lutherhaven! Your servant in Jesus, 2 Bob Baker, Executive Director WHY CAMP? Transformed Lives At camp, young people get the mental room to consider some of the most important issues of life: a break from the craziness of their regular routine to think about their future, evaluate unhealthy patterns, and discover the truth that God loves them and has an amazing calling for their lives. Nature & Adventure Campers explore nature, participate in new adventures and test their limits in a healthy environment surrounded by the grandeur of God’s creation. Community Apart from their daily routines, with opportunity to shed expectations and pressures of others, campers are freed to truly be themselves, to live above artificial limitations and blossom into who God created them to be. Lifelong Friendships Solid Christian relationships make all the difference in a kid’s life. Friendships with caring adult mentors and positive peer leaders, forged through shared experience and the compressed time at camp, can last a lifetime and provide connections that help young people navigate the challenges of life. Positive Adult Mentors Research says kids average fewer than 6 minutes of meaningful conversation with their parents each day. At camp, caring adults, counselors and mentors come alongside campers, helping them think through decisions and experiences in ways that prepare them for their future. Many campers point back to that positive role model at camp as one who helped shape the direction of their lives.
